You may or may not have noticed (depending on if you follow me on Twitter, which you totally should) that I recently migrated from Blogger to WordPress. It’s something I know I should have done a long time ago but kept putting it off. If you are wondering what is so superior about WordPress over Blogger then you are in the right place. If you want your blog to be more than just a hobby then read on to find out why you should be considering migrating from Blogger to WordPress.

Plugins

WordPress has an endless amount of plugins available. These can be easily used to modify and update your Blog at the click of a button. The possibilities with WordPress then literally become endless and you can alter and adjust your blog to suit your needs.

SEO

This is one of the main reasons I wanted to migrate my blog. WordPress has far superior Search Engine Optimization possibilities than Blogger.  If you want to work with brands and maintain this as a job then you need the Domain Authority and ranking to go with it. WordPress has plenty of plugins available to aid you with Search Engine Optimizing your site. I’m currently using Yoast and love the hints and tips it provides to making your blog as user friendly as possible.

Interface

When first joining WordPress the whole setup can feel a little daunting. There are lots more tabs than come with Blogger but they can all be easily learnt. Having such an in depth interface means maintaining control of the blog is a lot easier. If blogging is more than just a hobby then you want everything available at the touch of a button.

Ownership

Having a self hosted WordPress blog means that I own 100% of my blog. Blogger is owned by Google and therefore they essentially own your blog. Google regularly update their terms of service and whilst everything is peachy with Google right now I feel uncertain about what could happen in the future.

Usability

Editing Blogger is pretty impossible if you don’t know some HTML. Luckily I know a fair bit of HTML from my Myspace and doll design website days so this wasn’t a huge factor for me. Not having to constantly go in and edit the HTML to get the design and layout I wanted will save me a lot of time. With WordPress you don’t really need to know any HTML to make large changes to your design and layout.
